PANORAMAS
In Secondary three we will be using reflections and in secondary four the children will be using two text books for their history course this year. We will be creating notes and doing assignments from these books. I will teach them how to take notes from these book and the students should become familiar with the format I have shown below
All students should be keeping a timeline, an isms page and mnemonics page
Timeline: Students should be creating a timeline of the important dates that we have gone over in class and from their readings.
Every time the student notices an important date it should be placed on their timeline. This timeline is to be used as a study guide,
as there will be several timeline tests in term 2.
Isms page: Anytime a child sees a word that ends in ism in their readings or in class they should add it to a vocabulary lists of words to learn. These words become very important on the provincial exam
Mnemonics page: I have listed some introductory mnemonics on this site but students should be copying mine and creating their own all year in the hopes of learning the vast amount of knowledge expected of our students

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDY
There are three forms of homework the students are expected to do every day
1) The assigned readings and assignments. This one is obvious to all of us and it is the homework we all associate with the idea of homework: an assignment to be handed in on a due date
Children in my classes are also assigned and expected to do the following types of homework daily
2) Review: everyday that your child has history he/she should spend 15-20 mins in review of that day's lesson to solidify what they were taught. They should also correct any mistakes in their notes created from their readings. They should also be studying 15-20 mins of history on non-class days with 1 hour review of all course materials on the weekends. These numbers should be increased or decreased due to the ability level of your child.
3) Preview: the day before history class they should preview the next historical events, in their text books, that we will be covering in their class. This will help the student focus on the new material in class
Students are responsible for all work missed due to absence and are expected to contact a classmate (in the case of back to back English classes) or the teacher upon their return between classes.
ALL Tests cover the entire course and pop quizzes are possible. Tests will focus on the newest information but all Questions are possible. This causes constant review to be necessary and increases your child's chance for success.
